Motor Vehicle Accident - Monday, October 23rd UPDATE
October 23, 2023 - We would like to provide a brief update about an incident that impacted the start of our school day on the morning of Monday, October 23rd.
As many of you experienced, our first snowfall of the season created unexpected and hazardous driving conditions. Unfortunately, these conditions led to an accident involving a Brookwood School student on their way to school. A motor vehicle collided with the child amidst the slippery streets. We are immensely relieved to report that, following this alarming incident, everyone is going to be alright. Emergency services, including an ambulance, were quick to respond, ensuring the safety of all involved.
The student was taken to the hospital by their parents as a precautionary measure.
Due to the emergency response, traffic was significantly backed up along King Street as authorities worked diligently to manage the scene. We understand that many families experienced lengthy delays this morning as they approached the school and we sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation during such a challenging situation.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone in our school community about the importance of safe driving, especially under poor weather conditions. Snow, ice, and other winter weather conditions can make driving hazardous, and we urge all families to adjust their driving habits to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Thank you to everyone in our community for your understanding, patience, and adherence to safe practices. Such collective efforts contribute significantly to the well-being of our students and their families.
Stay safe and take care,
Rosanne McIntyre, Acting Principal Brookwood School
